Madison authorities report Prof. Griffith Richards aged 41, associate professor of soils at the University of Wisconsin since 1919, was found shot to death in his campus office. The body was discovered by a stenographer. authorities believe he killed himself.

A blaze in Komatsumachi northwest of Japan destroyed seven hundred buildings including the town hall station and schools. Damage was estimated at 1,000,000 yen. One fireman died and three were seriously injured when a fire engine overturned during efforts to control the fire.

Sheriff says Robert Hickman, 27, sought on murder charge in Mary Lyte death at Elizabethton after dispute with Hickman in Rogersville area. Authorities report Hickman leaped from a patrol car near Cleveland and fled. two shots fired, suspect not yet found. Lyte, 26, allegedly struck with a wrench and died days after transfer to Elizabethton.

Jefferson City Mo March 28 In an iron hand rule at the Missouri penitentiary guards clubbed fifteen unruly convicts this morning after they tried to get tough from their cells. The convicts were treated in the prison hospital and a total of sixty two inmates have been treated for injuries from guards or fellow prisoners during two days of disorder.
More than 3,000 of about 4,000 inmates at the Missouri penitentiary faced breakfast deprivation as authorities imposed a strict regime and hard boiled discipline following two mutinies in as many days. Warden Leslie Rudolph said the time for feeding the striking prisoners had arrived.
The famed wolf known as Two Toes will spend the rest of his life at the Memphis zoo after a cross county hunt in Arkansas. Sheriff E L Cooper and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney James Robertson organized the capture of the notorious predator who led a pack that killed sheep goats and cattle. In Harriman Tennessee coroner orders an inquest resumption into the deaths of Mrs Dorothy Welsh and her three children. Suspected smothering or drowning prior to immersion noted by Chief of Police John Hendrix. Sherman Welsh husband and father, separated from his wife for four years, learned of the tragedy upon returning to John Gilbert's home in Sharonville Ohio. Mrs Welsh had been in poor health.
