Honeymoon Ends in Two Car Crash East of LaFollette
A Florida to Detroit honeymoon ended tragically when a head on collision on State Highway 63 near Speedwell left three women dead. Mrs Kalie Whitmore 64 of Dayhall Kentucky Mrs Hassie Stanley 56 of Bowling Apts Harlan Kentucky and Mrs Gloria Jean Jakobiak 18 of Detroit Michigan died on arrival at La Follette Community Hospital. Mrs Jakobiak and her 19 year old husband Donald Allen were returning from Florida when their car crossed the curve and struck the Kentucky bound vehicle. A witness said Jakobiak’s car tires squealed before the crash and both cars lifted into the air. Jakobiak was reported in satisfactory condition. The wreck occurred shortly before 1 p.m. EST about 160 miles east of LaFollette.
