Reporters jailed for refusing to name sources in bribery case
Two reporters Jack Baker and Michael Smith were jailed without bail in Pulaski County after refusing to reveal the names of legislators who allegedly offered bribes to back a gambling bill in Hot Springs. Judge William Kirby held them in contempt, saying the privilege did not apply to the grand jury questions. Rep. Gayle Windsor said he had been offered 1 000 to vote for the bill, which the legislature approved but Gov. Rockefeller vetoed.
