New York March 23 AP The New York Times reports RCA has developed a radio tube that eliminates batteries and external power sources, potentially revolutionizing the radio industry. Officials would not confirm or deny the announcement. Reports say RCA plans an alternating current tube and receivers that operate directly from light sockets.
Nashville March 23 The Interstate Commerce Commission’s authority over crossing state lines with power must be clarified before legislation. Representative Gleaves reports a conference with Governor Al Smith of New York on Water Power Committee matters tied to the Niagara St. Lawrence project and a proposed $250 million dam, with New York to build its half and sell power to public utilities.
Geneva dispatch reports France insisting naval strength for armament limits be based on total tonnage rather than vessel categories. France argues each power should subdivide tonnage by ship type to suit its own defense. The French draft also excludes reservists from land force limitations, unlike the British plan.

Indictments charging first degree murder were returned against W J Johnson by a grand jury in Dandridge Tennessee for the slaying of Mrs Nip Howard and her daughter Mrs Jessie Bishop and Dibbrell Hicks a Carson Newman student. Johnson, held at Knox County jail, will be arraigned in Dandridge Wednesday morning. He shot and killed the elderly crippled woman and her daughter at Jefferson Springs about two months ago and also killed Hicks during a shooting at the Johnson home.
In Harlan Kentucky March 23 authorities investigate the death of Mary Vickery whose disappearance followed a two year absence. Conley Dabney longs for compensation after years in prison for a murder he says he did not commit. Marie Jackson testifies she aided in the case but cannot identify Dabney. Mary Vickery denies knowing Dabney or Jackson. Dabney seeks compensation and plans to press charges against Jackson, suspecting she shielded another killer.
Rufus Chesser, condemned for the 1965 murder of Sally Boyles in Clay County, was executed by electric chair at Raiford State Prison. He reportedly killed his brother in law in the same incident and faced death calmly before the sentence was carried out seven minutes after the switch was thrown.
Army transport Chateau Thierry, carrying about nine hundred passengers and three dozen influenza cases with four deaths, inches toward San Francisco after sailing from New York.
