Dr. W. H. Reed, president, announced at a Kingsport Business Men's Club meeting that the group will pursue establishing a local tobacco market. He urged farmers to plant one to two acres, promising current market prices will be paid, and called for wide farmer participation and cooperation for future prosperity, roads, schools, and churches.
Local Burley movement drives cash rewards for school libraries with a $200 prize to the best effort. Clubs are organized in Cedar Grove Blountville Holston Institute Church Hill Gate City and other towns with named chairmen and secretaries.
Colonel Dan Morgan Smith, commander in France of the Battalion of Death, First Battalion, 358th Infantry, 30th Division, AEF, who led 1120 men into the St Mihiel drive and emerged with 327, will address a community meeting at the First Baptist church at 7:30 Tuesday evening March 27. His subject is The World's War and the Fields of France. He will tell of soldier life.
J Fred Johnson writes to Dr W H Reed of Kingsport Business Men's Club praising the cooperation of businessmen and farmers in building a tobacco market and warehouse. He notes Kingsport's rapid growth, urges full participation, and offers support for plans safeguarding the venture.

Sergeant Murphy owned by Stephen Sanford of New York won the Grand National Steeplechase handicap of about 10 000 pounds. The American horse finished three lengths ahead after a four and a half mile course with Shawn Spa second and Conjured third among 28 starters.
