Feed Grain Signup Ends This Week
Sullivan County farmers are urged to sign up for the 1985 feed grain program before Friday. Participants can obtain price support loans and payments on their 1963 corn, barley, and grain sorghum crops, along with a diversion payment for shifting part of their feed grain base to a conserving use. Minimum diversion is 20 percent, maximum 50 percent or 25 acres, with higher rates for larger diversions. The ASCS office is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Experiments show glucose or sucrose alone support chicks. lactose led to overweight feed use. Sullivan County Agent J W McClain urges early breeding and dehorning of horned calves to reduce losses. Dehorning before a year old and castration when calves are young are recommended. Breed cows in late March to June for young calves. Cull cows that fail to breed or have weak milk. Check for lice and spray if found. Use high quality bulls with proven performance to ensure good grade and fast gain.
