Sullivan County Farms Sign For Wheat Program
Wheat growers in Sullivan County have signed up 30 farms to take part in the 1966 voluntary Wheat program. Through Feb 25 the farms signed up accounted for 156 acres of wheat allotments with 22 acres in additional voluntary diversion below allotments. National totals show 311,960 farms with 12,381,619 acres signed through Feb, and 819,136 extra diversion acres projected. Copenhaver notes spring wheat region changes limit further diversion. eligible signers get price support at 1.28 per bushel and certificates up to 45 percent of allotment, valued at parity minus 1.25. Signup runs Jan 1 through April 1.

Sullivan County farmers report 128 farms signed to participate in the 1966 feed grain program from January through March 18 with signup continuing to April 1. About 88 acres of corn sorghum and barley are entered for diversion payments this year. total county base acreage is 1 045 acres. Nationwide, 693 291 farms have joined through Feb 25 and expect to divert roughly 11 million acres for projected payments and price support on crops produced.

The 19th annual Tennessee All Club Congress opens Sunday in Nashville with more than 500 delegates from over 2,800 clubs representing 117,000 4 H members. Officers include Governor Tob Fugate and Speaker of the Senate Bob Miller. Highlights include citizenship and public speaking contests and a chance for top winners to receive college scholarships.
