Virginian Dies As Auto Plunges Into Moccasin Creek Curve
A Roanoke man Robert Dollan Joyner died when his 1836 Ford left a sharp Moccasin Curve under the railway overpass and plunged into Big Moccasin Creek near Gate City. Sheriff Pendleton attributed possible excessive speed. coroner Dr Griggs said a broken neck and fractured skull caused death about three hours before discovery. The accident followed reports of two earlier pedestrian collisions in Kingsport with 16 year olds Rita Bomer in critical condition and Fern McClain in good condition. Pedestrian fatalities and a separate vehicle crash compounded the day in the region.
