A 21 year old Kingsport woman Ruby Adame is jailed on first degree murder charges for stabbing tavern owner Thomas Oliver Taylor after a midnight dispute over a beer. The fatal wound occurred at Jans on the Johnson City highway sending Taylor to Holston Valley Hospital where he died. Preliminary hearings set for 2 p.m. today before Magistrate T Mack Kettar. Witnesses say Taylor refused service and Adame struck him, but no weapon was found. Taylor leaves a fiancée Helen Smith and two other women were with Adame. Funeral services Friday at 4 a.m. at the home of his mother Loretta Taylor with burial in New Guinnings cemetery. Taylor survived by five brothers.

New York representatives for Appalachian bituminous operators and United Mine Workers leaders continued closed door talks over a contract for 459,900 miners. No progress on UMAA terms or wage demands was reported after separate northern and southern subcommittee sessions. If no new contract is agreed by expiration, miners may strike when the current pact ends in March.
