Nixon Warns Hanoi of Possible Military Action

Reds Shake Up Saigon

An unharmed U.S. helicopter carrying Joint Military Commission peace supervisors was fired on in Viet Cong held territory. Squires Asked To Give Up Immunity

The Sullivan County Grand Jury again looked into illegal gambling this morning with over 30 witnesses called. Stephen L. Squires, under indictment for professional gambling, agreed to sign a waiver of immunity but said he would not answer questions about his own operations. Witnesses recalled included Darlene Griffin, Gary Bowman, Rich Whitt, and others as the case moves toward a July trial.

Surviving Programs At Upper East Tennessee Agency

Upper East Tennessee Economic Opportunities Authority chief executive John Price told the board that most programs survive beyond OEO support. Rainy stretch crash adds two more deaths near prior disaster

Two killed in a three vehicle pileup on 11 W near Bean Station on a rainy night, bringing the death toll tied to last summer’s bus-truck collision where 14 people died. Edgar Johnson, 63, of Sneedville, and Jack Lee Corbin, 41, of Winchester, Va., died. One injured driver, Larry Cullop, 28, of Meadowview, Va., is listed as in satisfactory condition. Traffic blocked for about three hours.

Rock Slide and Flood Woes Hit East Tennessee Area

Heavy rains continue across East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia with flash flood warnings in effect. Rivers and creeks rise, roads flood, and a 400-ton rock slide blocks the John B. Dennis Bypass in Sullivan County. Clinch River rises hourly prompting evacuation fears in Clinchport Virginia. Copper Creek floods highway 627 as more roads slide and local schools in Scott County close.
