House Approves Amtrak Aid Amid Pay Curb
The House authorized 173 million to keep Amtrak running to July 1 1973 with a 65 000 pay cut for the president. The vote was 312 to 63 for 170 million plus 2 million for cross border service. AWOL Soldier Wins Battle To Get Discharge
James Robert Harris won a discharge from the army after a four year AWOL period. The 22 year old, who overstayed Christmas leave in 1967, finally reached an agreement with military authorities that ended criminal charges and his four year absence. Harris had been confined at Ft Campbell since January. His mother said the family was thrilled and long overdue homecoming was expected. The army offered no comment.
