Missing in action fighter pilot Alston L. Brown over Germany
First Lieut. Alston J. Brown a 2-51 Mustang fighter pilot in the European theater has been missing in action over Germany since February 28. His wife learned of the telegram from the War Department. He is the son of Mr and Mrs gums Corey H Brown of 1644 Pineola Avenue. His wife resides with his parents. Brown had served overseas since 1944 as a member of the 356th Fighters Group and had recently been awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement. He shot down a German plane on February 14 over the Reich. A West Point graduate, he earned pilot wings at Stewart Field in June 1943 and was promoted to first lieutenant in December. His brother Captain Carey H Brown died in May 1944 in England while on test pilot duty.
