London dispatch notes two American-built mono planes flying toward Newfoundland from Cranwell England with a woman aboard described as dauntless. Reports identify passengers as Elsie Mackay daughter of a ship owner and Captain Walter Winchcliffe with speculation that relatives may try to thwart the voyage to become the first woman to fly solo or with a partner across the Atlantic.
British plane Endeavour carrying Elsie Mackay departed England to cross the Atlantic but hours passed without word. Weather varied along the coast with fogs and potential delays. last sightings placed it near Ireland or mid Atlantic en route to Nova Scotia.

A fogbound crash near Williamsburg left 19 year old AT. J. Scherer in critical condition and Miss Marjorie Appler 19 with serious injuries. Scherer lost a foot and mangled leg while Appler sustained a compound leg fracture and multiple cuts.
In Tampa on March 44, Fred R. Johnson, 19, son of a Chicago soap magnate, and Lydia Davies, 19, a New York and Louisville native, finished a hitchhiking trek from Norfolk with a fertilizer truck ride to reach Havana bound travel. The pair, who met in Italy last summer and wed after a Darmouth carnival, recounted their thrifted journey and living simply on a Lynnhaven River cabin trip, cooking with scavenged utensils.
