Dairy Herd Leaders Named in Sullivan County Show
Massengill and Jones herds led the Sullivan County Dairy Herd Improvement Assn in February as supervisor Herman Smith reports. Massengill’s 33 cows averaged 1103 pounds of milk and 44.6 pounds of butterfat, top among large herds. Jones’s 27 cows averaged 171 pounds of milk and 44.3 pounds of butterfat, best among smaller herds. Bill Fleenor posted two top individual milks with 2464 and 2383 pounds. a Massengill cow was third with 2156 pounds, and a Fleenor cow led butterfat with 82.8 pounds. Thirty-nine cows produced 60 pounds or more butterfat in 20 days across several herds.
