Kingsport Woman Wins Red Cross Sweetheart Honor

Mrs. Ruth Harkleroad of 144 Fairview Avenue was named one of the prettiest sweethearts in a contest sponsored by the American Red Cross chapter in Mecharstadt Mann, Germany, where her husband Private Andrew B. Harkleroad is stationed. She carried her three week old son Richard on the outing and wore a corsage of deep red roses presented by Backer Brothers Flower Shop. The award was a surprise to the family, who learned of the honor after his overseas service began in January 1946.

Ferocious Fight Reported in Suburbs of Mukden
