March 7 in Kenansville North Carolina a blaze destroyed the Central building of the Duplin county prison stockade killing 11 black convicts. Investigations by the coroner and state officials probed possible causes while guards defended delayed action.
A Waco 10 plane fell about 75 feet and burst into flame on Sullivan Boulevard near Sullivan Street. Three men escaped death or serious injury as wreckage showed a Waco 10 model. Occupants were pilot R. V. Shores of 219 East Charlemont Street and passengers Gus Howard of Highland Park and Pat [surname cut].
