Louisville Prepares for 46 Foot Flood Crest

The Weather Bureau forecast the Ohio River would crest at 46 feet about noon tomorrow, 18 feet above flood stage. Rain had ceased, but the river rose at about one tenth of a foot per hour, with 44.6 feet recorded at the upper gauge. Kingsport motorists have two and a half days to purchase 1845 motor vehicle licenses without penalty. City recorder J. R. Pecktal warns that after noon Saturday owners without tags face arrest and fines. A Greeneville sailor, Roland Osborn Rich Jr., seaman first class, was reported killed in action in the European theater. His mother, Mrs. Nora Black Rich Schrader, lives in Greeneville. An Army release also lists Captain Gunnar Teijman Jr. of Johnson City as a prisoner of war.
