Sullivan County officers hunt for Rickard Hickman wanted on murder charges in the death of Ernest Dykes, 49. Dykes' body was found partly submerged in a creek in a wheat field at the Gap, with bruised eyes and a forehead wound. Hickman allegedly told relatives he knew where the body was and described being intoxicated with Dykes the night before. Deputies report Hickman visited Dykes' brother at daybreak and mentioned the death, claiming he left a whisky bottle on the field. The body shows signs of dragging across the field to the creek before being placed in the water.
Albany reports a sweeping anti discrimination bill awaiting Governor Dewey's signature. The measure, passed 49 to 6 in the Senate and 109 to 32 in the Assembly, targets religious racial creed and national origin bias in hiring. It imposes fines up to 500 dollars and potential imprisonment up to a year, with exemptions for small firms and certain organizations. A five member commission will oversee hearings and issue cease and desist orders if mediation fails.
