Roy Pyle former Kingsport fire chief and 20 year department member died at 8 04 p m at his home 101 East Charlemont Avenue after a two month illness He was 56 Born and raised in Kingsport he was active in civic and Boy Scout affairs and a member of First Methodist Church Survived by four children Tom of New York City Mrs Mohestan Willenbi g Kingsport Mrs Barry Westcott and Jack Pyle of Kingsport two brothers BC and BC Pyle of Bingayert and one grandson Jane Welendon of Nuernburg Funeral arrangements were incomplete Tuesday He joined the fire department when organized later served as chief from 1948 to retirement in 196? Under his leadership Kingsport won national First Fire Prevention Campaign honors and the department expanded with the Bristol Highway project and new equipment He was active as a Boy Scout counselor and held leadership roles in the Tennessee Fireman’s Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
