JJOPRIS Tenn March 4 Pihur E Morgan chairman Tennessee Valley Authority told several thousand gathered near Norris Dam that the massive concrete structure will stand as a monument to the faithful and loyal work of free men. The ceremony marked completion of the dam the first finished by the TVA in its plan to develop the Tennessee river for navigation flood control and power. A siren at the dam signaled workers to lower sluiceway gates forming Norris Lake as the mountains rimmed the Clinch and Powell valleys. Morgan lauded President Roosevelt Senator Norris and praised the national scope of the project. Lilienthal TVA power director said the dam belongs to the 130 004 women and children of the United States and to the rivers and power they regulate. The report notes TVA has five other dams under construction on the Tennessee river.
