President rejects Baker for TVA board vacancy
President Eisenhower refused to appoint Congressman Howard Baker to the Tennessee Valley Authority three member board, citing a long standing rule against appointing members of Congress to federal posts. Ben Cooper, who had urged Baker, said the decision ends Baker’s chances and keeps the board seat open as Curtiy’s term expired.
