A banquet honors the Bartchy family Sunday evening with junior and senior high students invited.
The Hawkins County Singing Convention will convene Sunday at 10 a.m. on the Ebbing and Flowing Spring grounds near Rogersville. Regular outdoor singing with lunch at noon for attendees. Singers from Hawkins and adjoining counties eligible to participate.

In Harlan Kentucky the United Mine Workers union official said the walkout by nearly 1,000 miners at Bix mines and others would likely end by Monday. Mines affected include Corhetl Luwls Loveden, Black Mountain Henvir Clover-Darby Glosplint, Glenbrook-Stoneday, and Woods Mine of the Harlan-Wallins Coal Co at Evarts.
Dyersburg Tennessee voters approved a switch to TVA power after a close referendum. The city plant will close once TVA lines are integrated, with estimated savings up to 38 percent for consumers but potential loss of city revenue requiring new taxes. The vote tally showed 184 in favor amid a town of about 17 000, with a plant nearing capacity and $1 800 000 needed for repairs and expansion.
Cairo reports say Dorin Bhatik leads the Daughters of the Mite in a passive resistance campaign as Egyptians plan to boycott the plebiscite on the new constitution. She says about seven years of delay and demands for freedom drive the movement.
Evangelist H A Welklin, formerly of Chattanooga, starts a revival series at the Bible Auditorium 100 East Center Street. He will preach Is The Running Out with Colorama and screen imagery. Services run Sunday Tuesday Thursday and Friday nights at 7 30 throughout the summer with Johnny Harris leading communal singing.
