National Capital Honors Byrd and Navy Explorers

Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd and fellow South Pole explorers returned to Washington to receive civic praise and a special medal from the National Geographic Society. President Hoover and Navy officials welcomed Byrd home after his expedition supported by navy personnel, with spectators including families and schoolboys greeting the reunion on the White House lawn and at Union Station.

Four Negroes Executed in Two States for Slayings

In Alabama Kilby prison one week after a resignation three Black men were executed in the first triple electrocution there. Roy Lee Miles Edgar Harris and Jack Bowen were put to death amid disputed innocence claims. In Arkansas Ambrosia Alford, about 80, was executed in the state penitentiary for the 194? murder of Sam Katz, a Camden Russian shoemaker, with his wife Gladys serving a life sentence.

Crime Clearing House 18 Opened in Chicago

Chicago forms unified crime clearing hub in Loop skyscraper to advance the gangland crackdown. Denver Passed in Census Race

Denver, metropolis of the Rockies, saw its census rank fall after a 12 percent population rise to 287,728. It was surpassed by Louisville, Toledo, and Houston in this year’s count, underscoring shifts in urban population. Reed Defends Navy Pact Against Johnson Criticism

Senator Reed of Pennsylvania, a founder of the London naval treaty, praised the pact on radio and urged ratification. Gypsy King Detained After Missing Three Days

In Chicago on June 20 AP reports Tine Bimbo known as the Gypsy King was missing three days and feared kidnapped by rival gypsies. Police searched night and day and found him in a Lawndale district station cell being held for questioning by state officials. Also June 20 AP notes Maj. Gen. Everson will tour Camp Peay to inspect the Tennessee national guard encampment and discuss the future site of the 105th observation squadron with Memphis and Nashville delegations, with location decisions left to the state.

Schroeder case still a mystery

Mobile Alabama June 20 AP still without word on Harold Schroeder authorities press third attempt to identify a charred body found in Schroeder's burning automobile near Indianapolis Indiana May 21. Investigating the possibility the victim was Anthony Janulewicz of Manticoke Pennsylvania who once lived here deputy prosecutor George W Eggleston says information indicates a Mobile acquaintance of him received a postal card from Janulewicz dated June 6 in Pennsylvania. Tracing Card Eggleston will try to trace the card. Sheriff George L Winkler says he established receipt by Mrs Schroeder of a third letter from her husband dated Nashville Tennessee after his car was found near Indianapolis but she denies knowledge of his present whereabouts. Indiana officers planned to return to Indianapolis Tate today.

Plane Half Way to Time Record in Endurance Flight

Chicago June 26 The City of Chicago is halfway to the world endurance record with 210 hours achieved at 10 40 oclock. Pilots John and Kenneth Hunter steer the craft aiming to surpass the St Louis Robin which flew 420 hours.

Man Wounded Shifts Hunt for Brooklyn Slayings

Brooklyn police intensified a hunt after a man was shot in his car, tying the incident to a Queens killings spree. A second letter claimed seven more victims were to die unless a further document and $39,000 arrived, listing coded initials and a blueprinted plan amid a spread of alleged blackmail.
