From Shanghat to Hankow reports say the Yellow river flood, fed by storms, roared 10 to 20 miles wide and 80 miles long across Henan. At Childress Texas three trainmen died when a Fort Worth and Denver locomotive plunged into the flood swollen Salt Fork of the Red River. The engine and three cars were swept away during the night and the wreck occurred in the early morning. Victims named were M W Griggs engineer C E Burton fireman and Dick Brown brakeman all residents of Childress. Initial reports cited a washed out bridge as the probable cause.
