Weather brief reports show cloudy cool conditions across Tennessee with cooler conditions in the far east and partly cloudy Friday. Virginia expects fair conditions tonight and Friday with cooler air and east and central showers tonight. North Carolina forecasts partly cloudy and slightly cooler conditions with coastal showers tonight and generally fair Friday.
President Roosevelt will attend Speaker Burns's state funeral at the Capitol and accompany the funeral train and burial services in Tennessee. His Western trip plans to Texas may be moved up to allow attendance, with scheduling for the Little Rock stop held in abeyance awaiting the family’s burial decisions.
In Memphis on June 4, Sibley, president of the U S Chamber of Commerce, addressed more than 1000 young delegates at the National Junior Chamber of Commerce. He urged preserving the open road of individual superiority as America’s progress and called for interpreting the American system for the youth. He defended constitutional democracy, warned of liberty surrender under global distress, and argued liberalism spans ages.

A Allen Stephens will address the young lawyers after a discussion on regulating the practice of law. They urged a commission by the state Supreme Court to study reform. R B C Howell Jr Nashville called the meeting to order. John S Carriger Chattanooga gave welcomes. W H Moore Jackson replied. Joe V Williams Jr Chattanooga planned to discuss bar reform.
Memphis Iowa June 4 Allen Whitefield Pr esident of Des Moines told 1250 National Junior Chamber delegates that safeguarding natural resources is the top issue for young men He urged a coordinated nonpartisan program and state coordinating councils to unite sportsmen civic groups farm and garden groups and other interests in a nationwide conservation effort He noted federal civilian conservation corps as controversial and stressed returning young men to private enterprise promptly.
Emissaries from the Chinese canton government moved north to discuss a united Chinese war against Japanese aggression with Nanking officials. Chiang Kai-Shek declined to comment while Canton proposals were awaited, and reports from Canton fueled news of a possible union despite mixed statements and troop movements in Hunan Province.
In Cleveland on June 4 Republicans reported no change in the split between Landon Knox Borah factions. Illinois committeeman Frank L. Smith supported Knox as possible nominee but backed Landon as best for party unity. Kansas committeeman John Hamilton said no VP candidate has been chosen or approached.
Washington June 4 A state funeral in the house chamber was planned for Speaker Joseph Wellington Byrns who died suddenly. President Roosevelt planned to attend the funeral and burial in Tennessee. The Senate halted tax debate as leaders prepared to adjourn out of respect until the funeral. Bankhead was elected to succeed Byrns as Speaker.
Detroit report says Dean, the Black Legion's trigger man, plans to plead guilty to the kidnapping and murder of Charles A. Poole. He alleges his co defendants lied, while Harvey Davis claims Dean acted as an agent of Black Legion HQ and orchestrated the killing without broader approval. Davis accuses Dean of deception and guns being carried on the fatal trip.
James Day 21 on trial for the razor slaying of convict Rich ard Loeb moved toward a circuit court jury qualified to impose the death penalty. Defense counsel Dr Harold Levy and Emmett Byrne argued while prosecutors urged a verdict keeping Day behind bars long term.
