Jailer Colbert Baird Killed in Dellico Highway Crash

Colbert Baird fifty the jailer of Campbell County Jail at Jacksboro Tennessee died en route to a hospital after being struck by two cars on the Jellico highway twelve miles north of here. The accident occurred on the first day of a month's vacation. Baird was injured yesterday and died yesterday.

DEVALLS BLUFF Arkansas June 2 six members of a Farm family remained under physicians care after a food poisoning attack killed two. Leroy Todd 13 and his 15 year old brother Arthur led the impact while their father Orren Todd sought help for them. Todd his wife a daughter and three other sons were stricken shortly after Arthur died. Doctors said they probably would recover and the poisoning appeared to stem from eating a pig Monday.

Dry Forces Claim Win in North Carolina

In North Carolina, prohibitionists claim victory in Mecklenberg and Wayne counties, with Wayne’s totals re-evaluated to show 3,040 against and 2,959 for stores after disputed early figures. Mecklenburg stays dry at 7,812 to 6,693 though Charlotte city voters favor stores by 1,440. Washington precincts split, one unreported, while rural Mecklenburg voted against whisky sales. Nashville June 4 The State Anti Saloon League announced plans to oppose the sale and manufacture of liquor in Tennessee amid a looming September referendum on repeal of prohibition. Executive secretary Robert S Tinnon said the group will organize in counties to influence voters and resist repeal efforts. A Hendersonville meeting is planned to coordinate statewide opposition with leaders pledging educational campaigns about tax revenue benefits for schools and the elderly.
