Kingsport merchants announce August 3 and 4 as Dollar Days with many shops offering one dollar bargains. Out of town shoppers are expected to visit as local garages and banks join in the event, and window displays plus a special Times issue boost publicity. About 700 extra papers will be mailed to widen reach.

In a brief filed with the public utilities commission the City of Memphis asks that Cumberland Telephone and Telegraph Company rates be reduced at least 150000 dollars below the return in effect when a temporary increase was granted. Memphis cites 7.44 percent return in 1916, Nashville 5.75 percent, and 0.92 percent for the rest of the state. The brief notes Memphis rates were higher than elsewhere except Nashville.

Census Bureau reports stock leaf tobacco held by manufacturers and dealers was 81,000,000 pounds higher than last year and 150,000,000 pounds lower than April 1 this year. Total stocks were about 1,700,000 pounds.
Ray Ferguson was bound over to await trial in district court for being drunk and dis orderly after his arrest at the Riggs School House entertainment last Saturday night. Deputy Light arrested him and handed him to Sheriff Thomas and Deputy Bullock. Newman Ferguson was also taken into custody but escaped later from Deputy Bullock.
Officers captured over 60 gallons of blackberry wine last Saturday. Deputy Light identified the offender as Old Man Feathers of Wadlow Gap. He was bound over to await District Court proceedings by H. 0.
