Nashville July 27 AP obstacles to presenting a conspiracy indictment against Colonel Luke Lea and Luke Lea Jr in the closed Liberty Bank and Trust matter were removed by Tennessee Supreme Court Justice William T L Cook. He denied Atkinson district attorney general’s petitions to set aside court orders and to transfer the case to the Supreme Court. The opinion held Judge Gilbert did not deprive Atkinson of any emoluments or injure him. It noted the attorney general pro tempore has full powers and discretion.

Horton Delays Return as Governor Faces Cash Shortfall
Nashville July 27 AP Governor Horton could not return to his office due to illness after last Thursday’s car crash. He plans to work at the capitol tomorrow to tackle a backlog of duties including a near exhaustion of the general fund by August 1 and lack of treasury funds to pay. Comptroller Roy Wallace froze school warrants totaling about 2.5 million for counties this month. He noted roughly 400,000 in the general fund with about 200,000 of warrants outstanding and a 250,000 payroll pending.

East Tennessee tragedies claim five lives this week
Knoxville July 27 five deaths were reported across East Tennessee. A 15 year old boy, Jack Morris of Queida, was shot during a fishing trip on the Bib South Fork Cumberland River. Ora Lee Thompson, 14, said a misdirected fish shot by his shot missed him but Morris was struck. James Dykes, 20, a Knoxville high school graduate and railroad worker, drowned in the Holston River while swimming with friends. Clifford Duff, 25, and Minnie Moss Everett, 21, of Lenoir City, perished when their car slid off a mountain road near Rockwood. Lloyd Long, 35, of Bulls Gap, died after a stomach wound from a quarrel with Dolly Sutherland, 28, who is jailed in Hawkins County.

CELINA Tenn July 27 AP two youths Seth Carver 18 and Vestal King 20 face preliminary hearing on bank robbery charges linked to the attempted holdup of Bank of Hermitage Springs Friday.
