Monticello Kentucky patrolman Will Sexton says Beecher Raines and others shot Sheriff Evertt Gibson during a moonshine raid ten miles from town. Gibson died. Sexton was wounded seriously and taken to Somerset hospital in fair condition. Gibson was the second family sheriff killed by gunfire, as his brother J. J. Gibson also died while serving as sheriff in 1948.
