Adlai Blevenson, a two time Democratic presidential nominee, endorses Estes Kefauver for reelection in a telegram read aloud in Harriman Tennessee. He calls Kefauver’s reelection absolutely imperative for the country and the Democratic Party with warm personal regards. Stevenson had supported Kefauver in 1956.
CHICAGO IUPI Philip H Wilkie 40 son of Wendell Willkie announces candidacy for the Republican vice presidential nomination. The Rushville Ind lawyer banker vows to back tax deductions up to 2000 dollars a year for college students to ease education costs. He previously sought Indiana’s top education post and favors phonetic reading and bilingual basics for children from primary grades.
Knoxville reports U S representative Baker endorses Thruston Morton as the Republican running mate for Nixon. Baker, addressing the Knox County Women’s Republican Club, praised Morton as a skilled lawmaker with international experience and strong business credentials. He criticizes Kennedy’s new frontier platform.
Alvin E. Cain, a lifelong Jae van County resident and carpenter contractor, announces as a candidate for magistrate in Sullivan County's Civil District. Married to Arbuta Dickson, with two children, Cain resides at 3213 Bloomingdale Pike and is a Bloomingdale-Raritan Club member and Kingsley Methodist Church attender.
The Kendricks Creek Methodist Church announces its annual homecoming Sunday with Rev James Beasley Jr presiding at the morning service and Rev Rye Fleenor and Rev Ray Willis preaching in the afternoon. Special music by Tom Blam and an afternoon singing session follow a dinner on the grounds inviting all to attend.

He has served as superintendent of the Cleveland Tennessee district and pastor of Maryville First Methodist. Robert E Gee Jr will preach at the evening service while regular minister Rev Carroll Skeen is on vacation.
E P Rogers and William T Short of Blue Ridge Ginex Corp attended the 41st annual meeting of the Southern Industrial Conference held in Blue Ridge North Carolina last week. About 1000 executives were present. Rogers and Short are supervisors at Blue Ridge Ginex Corp.
Senator Estes Kefauver accused rival Andrew Taylor of opposing centralized programs during World War II. He urged crash programs and praised Oak Ridge laboratory for federal support in research. Kefauver outlined plans for atomic power development and space rockets as he campaigned across Oak Ridge, Harriman, Rockwood, Kingston, Lenoir City, London, and Cleveland.
Harold Rock aged 19 received five months and 29 days in jail and a $50 fine in General Sessions Court on an assault and battery charge. The felonious assault count from a shooting of a 11 year old boy was reduced to assault and battery. Rock allegedly fired a .32 caliber revolver into a car on Midland Drive, injuring Ernest Peahuff who is recovering at Holston Valley Community Hospital.
Bloomington Ind Robert T Moover of Holston Valley Community Hospital attends the 18th annual Institute on hospital accounting and finance at Indiana University. Sponsored by the American Association of Hospital Accountants keynote speaker Dr Russell A Nelson heads the American Hospital Association and Johns Hopkins Hospital executive roles.
Horton The U B Forest Service rep Rev Allen Hughes will speak Sunday at 9 50 am at West View Baptist Church in Beatt County Lee about pulpwood operations. The speech covers the forest and Kingsport sales to a local firm.

Luther Hill waived preliminary hearing Thursday afternoon and appeared before the Sullivan County Grand Jury on a five degree murder charge. Hill, a Black man, is charged with the fatal shooting of Melvin Brietes, also a Black man, last Saturday night. General Sessions ordered Hill held under $10,000 bond, the same amount set at arraignment. He has not made bond. The case will be tried next November in Criminal Court.
