Taylor Construction Co of Elizabethton bid 222 448 for an addition to Browning Hall at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City to house 70 more male students. Seven bids were received. contract expected after bid checks. Armstrong Construction Co of Kingsport was low bidder on a separate Johnson City project, 96 900 for a highway department maintenance garage.

Power Squadron Rendezvous at Boone Lake

Kingsport Power Squadron plans a Boone Lake rendezvous at 9 30 pm with boats ranging from barges and floats to large cruisers and outboard runabouts. Commander C Marshall says the event promotes safe boating and will feature public viewing on the Holston side. Beginning Sept 10 the squadron offers ten weekly safe boating classes.

Two Hurt In Fordtown Two Car Crash

Bonnie Kate Crawford age 38 from Janesboro and Richard Parnell Crawford age 13 of Jonesboro were injured in a two car collision at the Eastern Star and Summerville Roads intersection in the Fordtown area. Crawford treated for hip and knee injuries, released. Richard Crawford treated for a knee injury, released. George Worley Lawson not injured. Deputy J H Bishop said Crawford car traveled south on Fordtown Road and collided with Lawson’s northbound vehicle.

Strike Cases Are Continued in Law and Chancery Courts

Six strike cases were continued to the next Law Court term, including Frank J. Bradley whose case awaits settlement and five others Ross Booker Donald Lewis Herndon Claude Dishoer Farnes Fields and Lowell Peters. Fifty two more non jury trials were on the docket. In Chancery Court Judge Jackson C Raulston dismissed a contempt citation against Samuel L Justice a Kingsport Press union member charged with violating the strike injunction on March 13.

Leak Closes Legion Pool

A leak in the circulation system at the American Legion Pool has postponed classes and regular swimming. City Recreation Director W C McHorris says the pool will stay closed until the leak is located and repaired.

Correction: Wilcox tract sale prices clarified

The Times and News notes an error in reporting Wilcox tract lot sales. City Manager Charles K. Marsh states prices ranged from 4500 to 2500 dollars, not 15000. The city plans further sales of select residential lots, with proceeds funding future parks and recreation facilities.

City Court Public Drunkenness and Traffic Fines

Jim my Jones 37 of Church Hill was fined 5. Clifton Allison Cor dell forfeited 10. Willard J. Gousey 18 Route 2 forfeited 7.50 for failure to yield right of way. Two persons forfeited 3.50 illegal parking bonds and forfeitures were taken on 32.1 meter violation bonds.

Norton Garment Plant Opens Delayed in Virginia

Norton Virginia factory workers awaited the start of operations as 12 women initially worked on 4 machines per unit with 40 micro team capacity. The garment plant plans to hire about 80 workers, with additional machines rolling in to boost production and complete the plant build in stages.
