Gilbert N. Haugen Dies At 74 In Northwood Iowa

Gilbert N. Haugen, 74, longtime congressman and champion of agriculture, died of heart disease at his Northwood home after a long service in the House. Survived by son L. G. Haugen of New York and daughter Mrs. Joe Johnson. He coauthored the McNary Haugen measure with Senator Charles L. McNary. Funeral services and burial planned for Friday afternoon in Northwood.

Washington July 19 AP The farmer can now borrow up to 80 percent of appraised land value plus 20 percent of appraised permanent improvements with four stated purposes including land purchase equipment indebtedness liquidation or continued operation. Loans require appraisal, can be direct or via a national farm loan association. About 4000 associations exist with member stock equal to five percent of the loan, earning relief if loans default. Interest for members is 1.5 percent for five years and five percent thereafter.
