Hoover aims to sign a two billion dollar relief bill after a mountain retreat. The law provides up to 300 million for emergency unemployment relief with states applying via governors. Officials see rapid disbursement through the Reconstruction Finance Corporation and state authorities.

With a monthly payroll of $40000000, wages fund per dollar of company expenses. The plan spreads work among more staff rather than laying off workers, avoiding a large cut in wages. The five day week preserves hourly pay while granting one extra leisure day per week.
Norfolk July 19 AP Curtis Hughes Curtis released on $10,000 bail via bonding company to aid appeal from sentence for obstructing Justice in Lindbergh case. He arrived in Norfolk with bonding reps after steamer trip to Cape Charles then by car to Gen. Vith cottage. wife Mrs Curtis aided in securing bond as their daughter Constance remains with family.
Minnie Kennedy Hudson, mother of evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson Hutton, files for divorce from Guy Edward Hudson in Los Angeles. She cites excessive drinking, mental cruelty, and abusive profanity, claims he owes her 4540 dollars, and notes prior separations. Hudson denies, vows to work, physician updates on Mrs Hutton's skull injury, visitors restricted, and guard at her Lake Tismore home as legal actions unfold.
The St Lawrence Seaway will be constructed under a joint five member commission from the United States and Canada, called the St Lawrence International Rapids Section Commission. The body will operate free of red tape, hire staff, sign contracts, and push a 27 foot channel from Montreal to Lake Ontario while coordinating power plant plans. Immigration and tariff waivers are granted to workers, with the commission to be dissolved after work completes.

Ponca City Oklahoma July 19 When Al Capone may finish his Atlanta prison term he could buy Oklahoma’s 101 ranch a 17 600 acre property tied to Col Miller the last pioneer of the ranch said talks were under way for sale to Capone his brother Ralph and associates Miller planned to travel south to confer with Capone and the Beech and Smith partners Lou Alterie Capone rep. Miller said he did not know if the deal would close and noted another sale is more likely to occur The Capone brothers allegedly plan to run the ranch locally with intent to settle with Italians and expand farming while Miller might return to lead the 101 Wild West Show if the deal materializes
Treasury receipts for July 16 totaled 3 187 803.84 with expenditures of 21 429 898.65 and a balance of 229 464 222.49. Customs duties for 16 days in July stood at 9 198 790.28, reported from Washington.

A North Carolina hosiery strike that began with 300 workers in High Point expanded overnight to plants in Kernersville Thomasville and Kennersville drawing hundreds more. About 3,000 workers walked off in eight local companies in protest of a wage cut from about 2.25 to 1.50 per hundred pairs. The Regan mill in Thomasville shuttered and pledged workers would not return while others fled to crossings, blowing whistles and operating machines with no attendants. No major violence reported though gates were battered at one Kernersville mill.
E M Cox and his son C Cox posted 10000 bond each and await preliminary hearing before Magistrate A N Hawk in Kingsport after the fatal shooting of Guy Bevington Jr and wounding of Fred Thompson and Glen Potter. A third man remains at large as searches continue prior to tomorrow's hearing. Thompson rests at Marsh Clinic Hospital with bullet near liver and no operation performed. Bevington funeral held at First Baptist Church.
Turkey was admitted to the League of Nations at a special Geneva assembly session. The vote was unanimous after Turkey officially accepted the invitation to join. Kemal Jaxon Bey, the Turkish minister to Bern, took the seat as the new member. The United States, Brazil and Soviet Russia remain outside the league.
The University of Tennessee agricultural experiment station seeks a patent for a new strawberry variety named McClintock after nine years of work by Prof. J A McClintock. It boasts larger fruit, disease resistance, higher yield, and strong shipping traits. This spring 40,000 plants were distributed to 200 Tennessee growers.
