Forty Injured Fire At Oil Well Near Mount Pleasant
Forty people were burned in a fire at a newly drilled oil well about 13 miles east of Mount Pleasant Michigan on July 18. Owner Walter L. McClanhen, producer E. Gorham, and oil scout Fagitt were named among the severely injured as the well, flowing at about 1200 barrels, ignited nearby tanks and destroyed the rig after oil sprayed over the ground from a crowd of several hundred.

Petroleum Fire Under Control In Kilgore
Kilgore Texas July 18 AP firemen gained control of a petroleum blaze that threatened the oil town. Earl Renwick aged 34 was fatally burned when a tank of oil ignited likely from welding, and a violent explosion spread flames to other tanks. Fire crews kept the fire from reaching a nearby cotton gin and an adjacent oil well.

Storm Kills Two at Kingsport Johnson City Highway Opening
A severe storm at the opening of U S Highway 23 between Kingsport and Johnson City left two dead and more than twenty injured. A large tree broke through a P T A concession tent killing Mrs George H Hughes wife of a Borden Mills official and John Hamilton a longtime Johnson City merchant. Dozens were crowded inside the tent when the tree crashed. Witness E G Merriman aided the injured and warned others to seek open ground. The storm also damaged nearby tents as rain began to fall after the program was cut short.
