Virginia Hospital Board to Inspect Lynchburg Mental Hospital
The Virginia State Hospital Board agreed to send a three member committee led by its chairman to examine conditions at the Lynchburg Training School on August 8 and 9. The move follows calls from Lynchburg mental health advocates for an outside, competent investigation and comes amid broader scrutiny of the state's mental hospital system. The board also elected Edward E. Willey as chairman, with Porterfield and Smith among new appointees, and reviewed operations with Gov. Stanley.
