TWOC appeals for election at Borden Mill Kingsport

John A. Peel regional director of TWOC says a petition has been filed with the National Labor Relations Board in Atlanta seeking a union recognition election at Borden Mill in Kingsport Tennessee. He cites 80 percent of about 1,200 employees affiliated with TWOC and notes a hearing may be required.

Generally fair and cooler conditions in Kentucky and Tennessee with possible scattered showers in far west portions. East areas remain largely sunny with light local showers in the west. Wrecks Spill Two Victims In City Crashes

Two Kingsport residents were treated at Coralanity hospital after four auto accidents in the city. Nath Collins sustained a deep shoulder depression and broken collarbone when his Ford collided with a taxi driven by George Begley. Begley suffered a shoulder injury and was charged with reckless driving. Roscoe Ketron received severe lacerations from a ditch collision on Gibson Hill Road. No one else was seriously hurt though several cars were damaged in multiple collisions.

Pardons Sought for Two Ohio Prisoners

Akron strike paralyzes trucks halt in city action

About 2,000 Akron area truck drivers walked out in a strike called by the Akron Truck Drivers Union over wages. The blockade disrupted terminals and cost carriers about 30,000 per month, with 5 terminals operating from Akron affected. Officials urged the National Labor Relations Board to break the blockade and restore normal trucking, as arrests limited activity in Massillon and other northern Ohio cities.

Piccard Begins Solar Flight From Rochester Field

Dr Jean Piccard launched the Pleiades balloon from Soldiers Field in Rochester at 12 08 a m on July 18 as a crowd of more than 5000 watched. The craft rose after balloons broke loose and rope releases fired, with Piccard aiming to stay aloft about seven hours and drift 100 to 200 miles or more.

Wounded plant employee not expected to survive shotgun wounds

Stanko Randich, 26, a Bloomingdale resident and Blue Ridge Glass worker, was shot in the head near Oakdale Greene County. His wife, Mrs Randich, said he drove off to fish and returned drunk, prompting an argument. Relatives say Jones, held in Greene County jail, is charged with the shooting.

Intruder blamed in doctor's death in Providence

Police cite no new clues after questioning the physician's secretary Dorothea Gilgan and roommate Elizabeth Prince about the slaying of Dr George W Webster at his city townhouse. Mrs Webster asserts the doctor was with her and their daughter at Watch Hill when the crime occurred or the night before. Two shots from a 45 caliber pistol killed the renowned society physician in his east side home. The widow says the husband usually went to the summer home on Thursdays but stayed for a meeting the following day.
