Thieves Strike Auto Hangar At Local Airport

Sullivan County sheriff detective reports thieves jacked a 1957 automobile, stealing the transmission and drive shaft from the vehicle of James Miller parked at Bowl Mor lanes. A separate theft drained $13 from a soft drink machine at a Tri City Airport hangar as investigators continue to probe the incidents.

Settlements Hit with Big Damages in Kingsport Area

A string of out of court settlements in Kingsport totaled about 223000 in damages, with five suits at 40000 each and several others for personal injuries and vehicle damage stemming from a July 9, 1962 wreck near I 1 W two miles west of city. Plaintiffs include W K Davis of Knox County and Jackie Barrett of Sullivan County, plus Ruth Anderson and Wayne Goad, all seeking tens of thousands in compensation for injuries, medical bills, and loss of companionship. Court schedules show 61 nonjury cases for tomorrow, plus several lawsuits unresolved amid a heavy July docket.

City Court Public Drunkenness and Reckless Driving Report

W E Roberts and Clarence Brown both fined 20 dollars for public drunkenness in Laurens South Carolina. Ralph Salyers 46 with no address listed received non-suit on warrant. Carl Smith forfeited 50 dollar bond for reckless driving. Hareld Vance 19 and Kenseth Easterley forfeited 10 dollar bonds each for speeding.

Service Station Robbery Nets Masked Man $35

Johnny Dorton, 20, East Carters Valley, reported a masked man in a clown mask robbed Kaye Service Station on Stone Drive shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday, taking about $30 to $35 and forcing Dorton into the ladies restroom for over five minutes as a car left the scene. Detective Capt. Jim Broyles is investigating.
