At Chicago Stadium Edward J. Kelly urged drafting Franklin D Roosevelt for a third term as the Democratic convention opened. Delegates listened as Farley kept order, while discussions swirled about a possible ticket including Hull Garner or McNutt and other contenders.
A 49 year old farm wife in Kentucky confessed to killing her husband with an axe as he slept. Police say she claimed threats over money and support for their two sons, with their son Emmett stating he saw his mother strike his father. The victim died from 17 wounds after being attacked in bed.
William Green of the AFL told Democratic platform framers that if Roosevelt is permitted to handle unemployment a solution can be found. He denied endorsing a third term and urged labor protections in defense, prosecution of subversive elements, a Labor Secretary from AFL ranks, and Wagner Act impartial administration. The British garrison at Moyale, a frontier post on the Kenya Ethiopia border, withdrew last night as reported by Nairobi news agency. The siege by Italian forces ended without incident. Two suburban Donelson boys Billy Carden and James Smith were found pantless after entering a pond near their homes. Neighbors spotted their clothes and alerted responders who searched two hours before the youths returned home for their garments.
