Bonds totaling 235000 were sold today for 220 union miners including a 16000 bond for the district Secretary of the United Mine Workers arrested after a pitched battle between pickets and national guard men.
John L. Lewis pleads federal intervention to Attorney General Murphy over the Harlan county Kentucky labor dispute. He accuses Governor Chandler of oath violation for deploying the National Guard as miners clash with authorities in a bloody gun battle.
In a mine strike clash yesterday a miner was killed and six others, including two troopers, were shot or beaten. George Tiller and others faced sedition and confederating charges. bonds ranged from 1 000 to 4 000 dollars. District UMW president Turnblazer was summoned to Washington to testify, while 500 guardsmen joined 200 on duty as tensions eased.

Baton Rouge July 13 Former Governor Richard W Leche returned to the state capital to testify about LSU affairs but was dismissed for the day before entering the grand jury room. The jury planned to proceed with examining current and former state university laborers and supervisors, listing several witnesses.
Sullivan County beer resolution faces legal challenge as four Tiingsport lawyers clash over its legality. Some say state precedent supports the measure while others deem it unconstitutional. Retailers already plan to stay open on Sundays ahead of the resolution becoming effective.
