Ralston advances as balloting continues at Madison Square Garden amid a six hour recess. Ninety eight votes counted on the day with McAdoo waning, Smith steady, Davis rising, Glass slipping. Ward shifts to Indiaman, total votes see 196 1 4 for Ward and McAdoo at 310 to 314 on last ballot.
At the Democratic national convention in Madison Square Garden New York the roll calls show Senator Ralston gaining a new edge as McAdoo declines to a low level and Smith holds steady. On the ninety-first ballot Smith leads with 355 1 2 votes, McAdoo 318, Ralston 287 1 1, and Davis 66 1 2 as new blocs appear and rumors swirl on the floor.
Indianapolis Senator Ralston declined to comment when the ballot showed him passing the hundred vote mark during the radio proceedings of the national convention.
A dated plan from June 7, 1844, outlines an intended separation of the Methodist Episcopal Church into Northern and Southern jurisdictions over slavery. Washington reports tentative funeral plans for Calvin Coolidge Jr who died last night from blood poisoning after a blister on his foot while playing tennis. Services are set at the White House tomorrow then in North Hampton Massachusetts with burial Thursday at Plymouth Vermont, where the president was born. The Coolidges bear up under the loss after a five day battle with the poison.

In Pineville Kentucky an unidentified white man attempted to kidnap 12 year old Bonnie Hibbard from her bed at night. He pressed a pistol to her head and threatened to kill her if she screamed while dragging her from the bed but fled when the mother screamed.
The Sullivan County Court fixed the 1924 tax levy at 1.68 per hundred, up from 1.60.
