Chicago July 7. Eddie Freed was held at the detective bureau on the theory his detention would lure his wife Ruth Armelia Freed to custody for questioning about the slaying of Audrey Vallette. Assistant State's Attorney Richard Devine said Freed admitted intimacies with Miss Vallette but did not confirm he was the main actor in her love life. Freed previously surrendered at Hudson avenue station for interrogation and said he had not seen his wife since hours before Miss Vallette was shot last Thursday.

Lawyer is killed near camp site in Tennessee
Gallatin Tennessee July 7 41 George Smith a young Nashville attorney was shot to death beside his Cumberland River campfire early today. A 63 year old former Gallatin postmaster Harry Swaney was charged with the slaying. Sheriff Cron said Swaney posted a 7500 bond after arrest. The shooting occurred on the river bank near Swaney’s camp about four miles from Nashville during a WIENER roast when the four men including another attorney Howard Butler and Lindsey Allen son of a Davidson county magistrate were present.
