The Kingsport City School board will meet at 7 30 pm Thursday at the Superintendent's office located in Dobyns Bennett High School.
The Republican Women's Club sponsors a rummage sale on July 9 starting 9 30 a.m. at the old Hart Tite building. The Jaycettes host a bake sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. at Kingsport Mall. St Timothy’s Youth group holds a church car wash Saturday July 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church off Blountville Highway behind Fire Station No 3. Omega Chapter Beta Sigma Phi sponsors a car wash Saturday July 7 beginning 9 30 a.m. at Carter’s Chapel Funeral Home.
Betty Jo Carruthers presents paintings in the main office of Sulivan County’s First National Bank during regular banking hours through July 31. The display highlights regional themes and invites local visitors to view the works during business hours.
NAACP Labor Director Herbert Hill labeled youth unemployment the single most explosive factor in black urban ghettos. He warned that persistent job bias by government and discriminatory employers worsens inequality, risking a generation barred from entering the labor force. Nathaniel Jones noted potential court challenges to de jure versus de facto segregation in desegregation efforts.
