Kingsport Hosts Magnificent Independence Day Celebration
Thousands from a 100 mile radius filled Kingsport at dawn for a grand Fourth of July event marked by a large fireworks display, a baseball game, parade, and concerts. Crowds packed Main, Market, Cherokee and surrounding streets as two bands performed and city decor brightened the scene. Parking was at a premium while vendors offered cold drinks and ice cream as responders and onlookers enjoyed a daylong program.

Italian airmen launch Rome to South America non stop flight
Italian Captain Arturo Ferrarin and Major Carlo Delprete left Rome in a single plane seeking the first nonstop Europe to South America crossing. They aimed for Pernambuco, Brazil, after dawn and hoped to beat the 3,900 mile record, while already holding the 58 hour duration record. Aiming to pass Gibraltar and approach Cape Verde, the trio relied on a long-range craft with a 50 horsepower engine and onboard radio.

Celebration 638 Kingsport Parade and Events Overview

Organized by Retail Merchants and Men of Kingsport, with American Legion Hammond Post No 3 managing, the event includes a hundred items, judging by the detailed roster of participants and prizes. The celebration marks the United States Independence-era anniversary, culminating in a star spangled program and a ceremonial muster through the city core.

Sailor Elided in Harbor Collision Near San Pedro
In San Pedro California one sailor died and another is listed as missing after a collision in the harbor last night between the tanker District of Columbia and a Navy motorboat carrying shore party sailors from the USS West Virginia. The motorboat sank immediately. Continued on page four.

Rumor of Amundsen Plane Discovery Absent Basis
Reports from Oslo say rumors of finding Roald Amundsen's missing plane were unfounded. The British yacht Albion heard signals claiming a discovery but it emerged the report came from England and authorities found no evidence. The Amundsen body rumor also proved unverified.
