Fire Destroys Sullivan Street House and Store
A Wednesday blaze of unknown origin destroyed a frame store on Sullivan Street owned by I. L. Tickle and damaged adjoining properties. Much of the merchandise on the first floor belonged to H. C. Giles and belongings of two colored families living upstairs were lost. Firefighters faced low water pressure, with Water pumped from mains. Engineer Ray Barger suffered facial burns. Chief T C Warrick Roy Pyle and Shannon Sharrett sustained minor injuries.
