John and Kenneth Hunter pilots of the City of Chicago request a circuit court judge in Chicago to allow them to testify by radio in a suit filed against them. The offer of $100 per hour by an oil company expires after the 520th hour, with this milestone occurring early today.
The Seventy first Congress closes a lengthy session marked by the Smoot Hawley tariff, income tax cuts, and major fights between President Hoover and the Senate. Key actions include rivers and harbors measures, public buildings expansion, power commission reorganization, and transfer of Prohibition enforcement, with World War veterans pension debates unresolved. Chicago July 3 AP report says John and Kenneth Hunter aboard the City of Chicago aimed to break the non stop flight record by about 100 hours. They maintained altitude at 6 40 a m CST and later signaled frustration over confidential messages. They had planned to stay aloft past July 4 with refueling from Walter and Albert, moving 160 hours ahead of the prior record.
The endurance flight by the City of Chicago reaches beyond the 519 hour mark as Bernard L. Majewski, oil executive and former flight secretary, is named field marshal with czar like powers over finances and communications. A sheriff presence marked recent tensions with the Hunters and backers, but no court action followed.
French aviator Captain Dieudonne Coste remains unlocated seven hours after takeoff from Le Bourget on the Question Mark during a 15 hour test flight. He and mechanic Maurice Bellonte may be en route to the United States for Independence Day, with officials insisting he will return for a final check before an Atlantic attempt anticipated early next week.

Hoover condemned additions that raised costs by about 250 percent as the conference report rushed to the House for final action.
Chicago July 3 AP The law and the outlaw hunt gangster Jack Zuta who is linked to the Jake Lingles murder. Authorities seek Zuta for questioning while gangsters attack him in the loop despite police escort. New suspect Ted Newberry is tied to Lingles case and was seen near the subway tunnel where Lingles was killed.
Jonesboro Tennessee the oldest town in the state marks a sesquicentennial celebration begun July 4 with bunting flags and visitors. Congressman John Q Tilson of Connecticut will speak the day’s main address and a Tennessee marble monument will be unveiled by Donald and Ellis Sabin with former Governor Alf Taylor to attend.
In Norfolk a special grand jury returned 134 indictments against officers of the defunct Guaranty Title and Trust Corp. A. P. Griece led with 132 indictments, including banking act violations and grand larceny. Other named officials included Virginius Butts John S. Persons J. H. Tatem A. H. Gallow C. F. Mears and F. W. McKinney. Thousands suffered losses from failed mortgage bond investments after the firm’s 1929 bankruptcy.
The United States readies for Independence Day with millions traveling to beaches mountains and lakes for a three day holiday. New York rail and air carriers expect about two million travelers as Tammany Hall plans a Union Square flagpole dedication. International observances include solemn Gold Star Mothers ceremonies in France and Sweden and a public holiday in Peru.

An Italian train from Milan collided with a freight train at Sasso station eleven miles from Bologna at 6 40 am. The crash caused the locomotive and several coaches to derail. Initial reports varied but a later tally listed 15 dead and 30 injured due to a signaling apparatus defect.
Washington July 3 The Senate again weighs whether the Hoover Commission should be limited to a prohibition study or funded to continue its general program with a 250000 appropriation. House action earlier restored 250000 plus 88000 reappropriation, vote 272 to 41. A separate Senate vote was demanded by Senator Glass.
