CAPE KENNEDY UPS reports Tiros 10, America’s latest weather satellite, encountered a three hour spin problem after launch but engineers quickly corrected it. A radio command stopped the rapid spin and a magnetic positioning system was activated to align twin cameras toward Earth. Officials said the two cameras tested successfully and were aimed at hurricane forming areas with usable pictures expected Saturday afternoon.

R I police head off Newport jazz festival trouble
In Newport Rhode Island police halted disturbances during the opening night of the Newport Jazz Festival.
