Survivors reach land after Atlantic gale with three dead
Three young survivors of an Atlantic gale reached Sydney harbor aboard the damaged 54-foot ketch Hamrah after their Boston companions, Robert Ames and his two sons, were lost. Navigator Charles Tillinghast of Providence and Roger Weed and Sheldon Ware of Boston reported Ames washed overboard during the June 19 voyage from Newport toward Bergen. Harry and Richard Ames died trying to rescue their father. Mrs. Ames sailed for England on June 22 unaware of the fatalities.
