Lee County Boy Drowns In River

An 11 year old boy, Alvin Hampton of East Stone Gap, drowned while fishing in Powell River near Rose Hill in the Flatwoods. He stepped into a deep hole while wading about 3 p.m. His father Paul Hampton and mother watched as Gregory Thomas of Woodway tried to revive him, but he died. The body lay at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap.
