Not Guilty Found In Three Assault Cases In Tennessee
A Circuit Court jury returned not guilty verdicts in three related cases involving four people from Walker's Fork. Hurley Phillips and Billy Jones faced hunting without permission charges. Phillips sisters Gladys and Helen were charged with assault and battery. Mrs Murrell and her daughter testified the pair trespassed and shot on their land. the Phillips girls denied assault, claiming the youths were on Phillips property. In a separate trial, Clyde Carter was found guilty of assault with intent to commit voluntary manslaughter for a January Long Island shooting, with a two year sentence.
