Wickersham Dies Sudden in Taxi
George W. Wickersham former attorney general and later head of the prohibition commission died suddenly in a taxi in New York. The 76 year old was en route to a club luncheon when the cab driver found him dead. Henry W Taft, his law partner, identified the body at a police station. Wickersham served as attorney general under President Taft from 1909 to 1913. The driver said he did not appear ill on entering the cab. The cabbie had driven him in the city for over three years. The taxi ride ended near Fifth Avenue and 43rd Street as the lawyer asked where to go.
